Wilson Calls for VA Secretary’s Resignation

Another local member of Congress has joined those calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to resign.

Rep. Joe Wilson, the chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel, sent a letter this week to President Obama requesting that Shinseki be removed immediately.

The letter was mailed in response to an interim report issued Wednesday by the VA’s inspector general. It released preliminary findings of an investigation into allegations of secret waiting lists and falsified records at the Phoenix VA hospital and whether they are a departmentwide problem.

The probe confirmed the accusations and found that such problems are “systemic” throughout the VA. Investigators said they are now looking into 42 medical facilities in connection with health care delays, up sharply from 26 last week and 10 the week before that.

“The Administration’s inability to provide services to our veterans is inexcusable,” said Wilson, a South Carolina Republican who represents much of the Aiken area, said in a statement. “When President Obama campaigned for the White House, he claimed a desire to help our heroes receive the care they deserve and earned while fighting for our freedoms. Sadly, throughout the last few years the Department of Veterans Affairs has become riddled with scandal, neglect, and incompetence under Secretary Eric Shinseki’s mismanagement. The only way to move forward is to appoint a new Secretary in hopes of restoring faith to our veterans, military families, and the American people.”

Wilson Statement on Establishment of House Select Committee on Benghazi

5_19

Congressman Joe Wilson (SC-02) issued the following statement after the House passed H.Res. 567, a resolution establishing a Select Committee on Benghazi. Fellow South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy (SC-04), a successful prosecutor who is respected amongst his peers on both sides of the Aisle, has been selected to lead this Committee that will consist of seven republicans and five democrats.

“Congressional oversight promotes transparency and holds our government accountable,” Congressman Wilson stated. “When four brave Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were murdered at the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11, 2012, President Obama vowed to bring those responsible to justice and prevent future attacks from occurring. Two years later, the American people have countless unanswered questions and the terrorists remain unpunished.

Obamacare Costs More Money Than It Saves

Newsmax

A new study about Obamacare proves the program is simply too expensive for its own good, says the American Action Forum.

The group’s findings say the Affordable Care Act so far has racked up more than $27.2 billion in private-sector charges and $8 billion in costs to states.

The AAF estimates the law has brought in $2.6 billion in annualized benefits against $6.8 billion in costs, which means one thing: Obamacare is costing more money than it is saving.

The findings are similar when it comes to the labor and manpower it takes to keep Obamacare running. The law has amassed 159 million hours of paperwork, the AAF report says.

Amid military cuts, Obama urges $300B for roads and railways

Fox News

Just two days after the Pentagon outlined major cuts to the U.S. Army and other military programs, President Obama is calling for a whopping $300 billion commitment for America’s roads, bridges and mass transit systems — though as much as half comes from a tax plan that has bleak prospects on the Hill.

The president talked about the stimulus-style plan during a stop Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn. Officials say the money, as proposed, largely would come from “pro-growth business tax reform.” But aside from the challenges in pushing tax reform, Obama could have a hard time making the sell when his military leaders, just days ago, were complaining about the budget crunch.

ObamaCare tax cost 33,000 jobs, medical trade group says

WASHINGTON — A new ObamaCare tax on medical devices has already resulted in the loss of about 33,000 jobs in the industry, according to a prominent health-care trade association.

The grim statistic negates claims this week by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that “there is absolutely no evidence .?.?. that there is any job loss related to the Affordable Care Act.”
